Deadline has learned Netflix Cancels Show Filmed North Carolina has made the decision to cancel The Waterfront. It is a crime drama series from writer Kevin Williamson. Williamson has reportedly spoken to the cast about the news. It has also been reported that the crew has been told about the cancellation.

The Waterfront was released on June 19. The series was a success, with North Carolina’s Buckley family crime saga being one of the major stories in the news. With five weeks in the Top 10 English Series, the program was a three-time winner at number one, with 11.6 Million views in the first full week and a total of 58.9 Million views in five weeks.

Netflix has also renewed a series called Ransom Canyon. In its first full week, it reported 9.4 Million views and was a Top 10 Series for four weeks, with a peak position of number two. Two other series that aired this year, Pulse and The Residence, were also cancelled after one season and performed worse than Ransom Canyon, with The Residence reporting an 8.8 Million peak and The Waterfront’s 11.6 Million.

When considering a show’s renewal, Netflix’s executives typically focus on its performance relative to its cost. However, submission to awards shows, social media engagement, and the show’s audience demographic are other aspects that their decisions are based on. In addition to the number of views, show performance includes how many viewers complete the show, completion rate, which is not disclosed. Earlier this month, sources told Deadline that the completion rate for The Waterfront was good. I hear Netflix did not think the viewership and the completion rate were high enough to renew the show.

The Waterfront Netflix Cancels Show Filmed North Carolina, like Ransom Canyon, which stars Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, is a character-driven family drama.

Unlike Ransom Canyon, which is produced by Netflix along with Forever, The Waterfront is produced by Universal Television. It is unknown if the subscription service’s renewal standards are higher for externally produced shows. Universal Television has achieved rapid renewals for its two most recently released shows at Netflix, The Man On Inside and Four Seasons.

Netflix Extended

They are among the many new shows that Netflix extended a renewal to in the past eight months. This includes the Warner Bros. TV shows Untamed and Running Point, and 20th Television’s Nobody Wants This and the recent influx of shows including Dept. Q, Beauty In Black, Ransom Canyon, Forever, North of North, The Vince Staples Show, the animated Devil May Cry and Canadian shows Bet and Geek Girl. During this time period, Netflix has renewed almost 20 scripted shows.

The Waterfront’s debut was rated 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. The plot surrounds the Buckley family, who established a fishing empire that purportedly dominates the fishing and restaurant industries of the small North Carolina town of Havenport. Belle (Bello) and Cane Buckley (Weary) struggle to maintain the family fishing empire, while their patriarch Harlan (McCallany) slowly recovers from his two heart attacks. Harlan then resumes his place of control over the family business as Belle and Cane Buckley dive into even greater chaos and peril. Buckley daughter Bree (Benoist) is in a recovery from addiction and has lost custody of her son. She gets involved in very dangerous entanglements that could ruin the future of the entire family.

“I’m say(ing) the Buckleys won’t be back for Season 2, but I’m celebrating the joy that was Season 1,” Williamson shared on IG after Deadline’s report. “It was one of the best experiences of my life!” The crew of the series includes the executive producers Ben Fast, Williamson, Michael Narducci, and Marcos Siega. Williamson and Grace are also part of the crew.

As for the cancellation, there has been no official comment, but according to Deadline, Netflix takes several elements into consideration.

There were more positives than negatives for “The Waterfront” reviews. Some critics enjoyed the story because it made you want more, but others found the story hard to believe due to some of the things that happened in the story that were unreasonable. In the show “The Waterfront” you see some of Wilmington, Southport, and Wrightsville Beach and all of them getting a good amount of screen time.

Hollywood Icon reported that “The Waterfront” was number one in the Netflix Global Top 10 English-Language Series list for three weeks (with an estimated 11.6 million views during its first week of full availability). That puts shows like Breaking Bad and The Office in the second and third place spots for most acclaimed shows.

Wilmington film workers (who were counting on the production of “The Waterfront” for new jobs) were devastated by the cancelation. There have been no major film productions in North Carolina since “Driver’s Ed” left Wilmington in April. The count had begun to pick up for more jobs since the production of “The netflix cancels popular series the residence ” was planned for the second season. Regardless of being the most popular show on Netflix for many weeks, the drama that was filmed in Wilmington will not return for a second season.

Kevin Williamson, creator and co-writer of Waterfront, took to his Instagram to share his excitement for the show, calling it “one of the best experiences of my life!” netflix show filmed north carolina cancelled .
